The Washington Center is pleased to announce an opportunity for students to participate in a fully-funded (plus stipend) internship program with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Selected students will have the opportunity to intern for FAA offices and participate in an experiential training program. Student participants will gain relevant skills and knowledge, explore career options within the Department of Transportation and other federal agencies, and develop a greater awareness of the role of the federal government. Internship sites for the fall 2009 semester are in Washington , D.C.

Qualifications

Be a currently enrolled student in an accredited college or university
Be of junior status or above (60 academic credit hours) at the time of the internship
Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
Be a U.S. citizen
Complete all components of the application packet
All students who meet these criteria are eligible to apply; however, Native American and Asian American students, as well as students with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply

Compensation

Selected students will receive The Washington Center program fee and housing fee at no charge and receive a substantial weekly stipend. Students have the option of living in fully-furnished housing facilities within blocks of the DC metro line. If students choose not to live in Washington Center provided housing, the stipend is increased. All stipends are based on a 36 hour work week and payroll is distributed on the 15th and 30th of each month. The Washington Center is the official employer and must have the I-9 and W-4 tax forms on file. Direct deposit is available.

Dates and Deadlines
Application Deadline will remain open until positions are filled. Positions are competitive and students are encourage to apply as soon as possible.

Students interested in applying only to the Department of Transportation FAA Internship Program, and not other opportunities at The Washington Center, must apply for the program via The Washington Center’s on-line application. Students can link directly to instructions for the on-line application at: ­https://secure.twc.edu/twc/default.jsp . After creating an account and entering the online application, students must select option 2 on the first page and then “Federal Aviation Administration” from the drop down box labeled “Government Scholarship Program applying to.” Students who apply only to this program using the online application are exempt from paying the $60 application fee.
